Joe is a former co-worker of Anne’s and we’ve been friends with these two since they began dating 16 years ago, and were so happy to see them take the plunge and formally commit themselves to one another in front of their dear friends and family on the banks of Lake Geneva in New York. Some of our favorite moments from your wedding include:

The huge range of emotions on your faces and loving glances to one another as you waited (patiently?) to walk down the aisle together to marry each other. The story told about your first Christmas together with the rings you gave each other 16 years ago and how they felt perfect as your wedding rings today. The surprise garter (nice touch with the teeth!) and bouquet toss, a huge hit among your guests and especially those who caught them. When getting ready, the casual attentiveness you had toward the other, tying ties and making sure the other looked just right. The cheers of congratulations among your loved ones as they watched you turn around at the altar with beaming smiles on your faces. Even the rain later that evening couldn’t dampen anyones spirits.

Laura & Gavin’s Wedding at Lionscrest Manor in Lyons, Colorado

When we first moved to Boulder we worked closely with our realtor Chad St. Onge and his awesome team, one of whom is the wonderful Laura. She and Gavin were engaged in Europe shortly before we moved out here and we were so excited when they wanted to talk with us about shooting their wedding up in Lyons, just a short drive outside of Boulder. We all hit it off and the only thing we were bummed about is that Summer 2014 seemed so far away at the time!

You might remember hers and Gavin’s Boulder engagement session from a couple of months ago and their wedding was done in true Colorado fashion. Just look at that view! As you’ll see their nieces and nephews enjoyed running around the grounds, as well.

Some of our favorite moments while photographing your wedding include:
Gavin, your arrival at Lyonscrest Manor with your groomsmen was among the most celebratory we’ve ever seen. Joyous, fun, tight with your guys. It was awesome. That mischievous grin on your face, Laura, as you approached Gavin during your first sight. For each of you, when your respective moms saw you dressed for the ceremony that day, they had the most loving, caring, adoring looks on their faces. Your maid of honor’s assertion, holding up her iPhone, that she was being a true Boulder-ite by going paperless with her toast, ha! The semblance of comity (just a semblance) during your cake cutting. You knew you had to do it.

Julie & Michael’s Wedding at Congressional Cemetery

It’s the start of the wedding season, and it was so cool beginning things with a long-time former co-worker of Bill’s. Julie reached out to us this winter with the wonderful news of hers and Michael’s engagement, so we were doubly happy to return to the DC area to capture their laid-back wedding day. One of the things they did which we love is they both met and welcomed their guests as they arrived at the Congressional Cemetery chapel prior to the ceremony. (She also walked down the aisle with her sister!) It gave the whole affair an easy-going start to the day and really set the mood for the evening’s festivities, held at Firefly Restaurant. And, it could not have been a more gorgeous Spring day.

Some of the favorite moments we had from your wedding day include:
You could feel the moment blocks away of you two seeing each other for the first time that day on your front stoop. Your high-five with your sister just before getting dressed, Julie. The huge grins on your faces as you greeted your arriving guests prior to your ceremony. That look, Michael, you had on your face just as Julie appeared in the chapel’s doorway, ready to walk down the aisle. Holding on to Michael’s arm so tightly as you recessed following the ceremony, Julie, as if to say, “Never apart.” While not technically a moment, the perfect weather–loved it! And finally, the toasters. Wow. The toasters. We had no idea, Michael.

What do you get when you cross two Ivy League-educated attorneys with a love for pranks, and irreverent sense of humor? Why, Misty & Roby of course. You know them, don’t you? Faithful readers of this journal will remember them from their early springtime Love Session, and now they’ve tied the knot in an amazingly unique ceremony (not only in the round, but officiated by their wedding party and parents!) at the always stunning Mellon Auditorium in DC and expertly planned and executed by the fantastic Sara Muchnick. We simply adore these two and are so delighted to share a few of our fave moments and of course, some gorgeous decor from their wedding day with you. So how cool is this? Misty, part of a dance troupe in college, was completely surprised by a production her friends put on for the couple. The even bigger surprise? Roby, who otherwise would not necessarily be classified as a dancer, partook in the last number of the set to the cheers of everyone and as a surprise to Misty. Totally blew her mind. Loved it!

Some of our favorite memories from your wedding weekend include:

The molecular mixologists at your rehearsal dinner (what a way to start the weekend!). Your first sight, when Roby shook his money maker (and then shook it again later that night…). That you created a unique ceremony officiated by your dearest friends, all participating in their own way. That amazing dance routine performed for you, including a surprise appearance by Roby. Yup, shaking his money maker once again. Wow, it was hard not just putting down our cameras and watching in amazement. The coordinated superhero boxers (not shown). Your laughter, especially immediately after your ceremony. Having your talented singing friends entertain the rest of your guests during cocktail hour. Misty, that you managed to get down on the dance floor despite recently injuring your feet–that was serious perseverance.

Lauren & Chas’s Wedding at Fat Cat Farm

Your kind words about us and our marriage being an inspiration for all couples on their wedding day. Lauren, your easy laugh and how your radiant smile could brighten a cloudy day. Your stolen kisses. How overcome with emotion you both became during your personal vows. Chas, the overwhelming look of pride on your dad’s face as he hugged you after your ceremony. Lauren, the broad smile on your dad’s face…all night long. Your delicious pies! Not really a moment there, but having a bite definitely was. All the boot kickin’ on the dance floor. That hug when you first saw each other that day; it was as if you’d never separate. Awesome.

Mary Beth & Chris’s Wedding at Shrine Mont

When you’re in love with not only the couple, but their families, it makes documenting the wedding day that much richer. We had known Mary Beth’s family from back when her sister married (thanks to the recommendation of Andrew & Julie) and while sadly we were already commissioned on her date we all kept in touch. When Mary Beth and Chris decided to tie the knot at a peaceful place very close to her heart, we were thrilled to be able to photograph it all for them, even without air conditioning and with a smidgen of rain. 😉 What’s a few rain drops between friends, anyway?

The way the sunrise shone straight through the early morning fog. Mary Beth, your look of intrigue when you heard your dress was “going on a field trip.” Don’t worry, it was chaperoned. Your families’ infectious energy, not just for one moment but during the entire day. The way Ann reached out and touched your arm, Chris, as Mary Beth began walking down the aisle. The kids during your ceremony (too many individual moments to note–it’d fill a small book). That you shrugged off the small amount of rain in favor of marrying at your favorite spot. The way you held hands all through the ceremony. S’mores! Again, not really a moment per se, but boy were those tasty.
