Our Re-Imagining of Holland Photo Arts

"Sunset's purple and orange glow illuminates coastal waters near Face Rock, Bandon, Oregon, creating tranquil twilight scene"

When we started working on the new hollandphotoarts.com, we didn’t realize it would take us a year to complete and share it with the world. But in the process, we rediscovered what mattered most:

  1. Perusing our work online should be easy and enjoyable.
  2. Information about our process, pricing, and philosophy should be visible and clear.
  3. Our art should be accessible to those who value it.

Let’s break it down:

Making it easy and enjoyable

Just like there’s myriad kinds of people, there are multiple kinds of scenarios and contexts, and we wanted to meet people where they were. Hence, we broke out our main gallery navigation in several ways:

You can use search to locate images by their title, description, or specific location. And lastly, we wanted people to be able to tell what the latest and greatest work on the site is, so we also show off our New Releases.

Process, pricing & philosophy are clear

Sometimes you just appreciate a piece of art for its own sake, no additional information needed. Yet in other circumstances, learning a little more about the scene or what went into it can imbue it with a deeper meaning, leading to even deeper connection with the piece. We appreciate that it’s really up to the viewer and how they wish to experience it.

We recognized that while we had our own preferences, our clients would come to us with different needs for size and presentation styles, and we wanted to meet them where they were in ways that answered all their questions and made them comfortable investing in our art. This led to product and limited edition FAQs, consistent pricing, and brief descriptions for each photo.

Making art accessible

Here we wish to serve two mindsets. For the vast majority of our work, we’ve priced our pieces so that most anyone who truly values photography as art can own and display a piece in their home or favorite space.

We also wish to serve the art collector, and have a curated selection of some of our most interesting work in the form of limited editions which can be wonderful investments. The balance between open and limited edition work can be a fine line, and one we continue to navigate.

In the end…

We really just want two things: Enjoy what we do, and give others the opportunity to share in that joy. We hope you feel that and more as you peruse our new site. We also recognize there’s a lot of work there. And for some who are interested in having a piece of their own, making a selection can be challenging. We’re working on ways to make this even easier but in the meantime, we love just having a conversation about what you want with your art, and are happy to offer recommendations.
