Big congrats to Evan & Ashleigh, and to Emily & Scott! Both couples had moments captured at their weddings that were tops in our most recent International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers contest! We’re so grateful for the two of you for giving us the opportunity to document these small moments that mean so much to each of you.

So yes! We’re a little excited (and perhaps a little tardy, but hey, who’s counting?) about two very recent developments. The highly regarded and wonderful resource Washingtonian Bride and Groom magazine recently hit the stands. Within it, we were delighted to find not only were we again selected as one of the very best wedding photographers in the Washington, DC area, we received more votes from area professionals and couples than any other photographer. Truly humbling and yes, it really did make our day.

Not long after, the editor of Virginia Living magazine called to let us know they selected us among Virginia’s very best wedding photographers in their most recent issue (seriously, pick up this magazine–every issue is stunningly beautiful).

Thank you to those who voted! We’re so grateful to live and work in a place that supports creativity and a strong sense of community.

Fearless Photographers Wins

Fearless Photographers Wins

We’re humbled and honored to have two of our images selected among thousands of entries with the Fearless Photographers group for award. Rather than select a place per se, contest judges identify images that are among the best of the best of portfolios from photographers around the world. We couldn’t be more pleased, as each of us had an image selected.

Congratulations to Alisa & Brian, whose Veritas Vineyard wedding was the setting for a choice image taken by Anne in our most recent International Society of Wedding Photographers contest! Thanks, Alisa, for providing that great moment with you and your parents for us to capture. We love it! And of course, Alisa & Brian now get a $25 gift card for use toward anything we offer!

Photo contest wins with the ISPWP!

Happy Friday everyone! Are you digging out from the snow? We got just a few inches down here in our little ‘burb but it was enough to make the roads a bit treacherous and close the schools. Nonetheless, it made for some gorgeous views in our neighborhood, and it was fun watching the snow fall all afternoon.

We’re happy to announce today that we placed several images in our quarterly contest with the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers. The organization, of which we’re founding members, has some of the most talented photographers in the world, literally. Amazing work, really. So we’re delighted that our clients helped provide such amazing moments for us to capture later this summer to submit for the contest. Clients whose wedding images appear here will automatically get  a free 8×10 of their choice. Enjoy!

Lastly, we loved this moment as Travis meets Kate and her parents at the start of their wedding ceremony. “Goosebumps” is how one judge described it. Photo by Bill.

Congrats to all the couples whose images were included! We’re so happy for you and grateful to you.

ISPWP Contest Wins!

Regular readers of this space know we periodically submit a few images from our clients’ weddings to the International Society of Wedding Photographers, a collection of some of the most talented photographers we’ve ever seen. As usual, competition this time was intense, and we’re thrilled to report many images placed in top spots with their respective categories. And as always, clients whose weddings happen to be featured in these winning images will receive gift certificates with Holland Photo Arts to use as their hearts desire.

Winning Image in Design Aglow’s Modern Guide for Posing Wedding Parties

We were super psyched to learn that one of our favorite wedding party images was recently chosen from over 1,00o entries to be included in Design Aglow’s new Modern Wedding Party Posing Guide! (Just try and say that three times fast! 😉 ) Design Aglow is a great resource for professional photographers, especially those just starting out in the business, and we’re honored to have been featured in the guide along with many of our incredibly talented peers. Their quarterly magazine is always stocked with fresh, inspiring imagery and fun, informative features – it’s one of our industry must reads.

The winning image was from Erin & Bryan’s fabulous Spring wedding at the gorgeous Veritas Vineyard & Winery. Erin & Bryan had a lovely, but large wedding party so it was fun coming up with different ways to “feature” their closest friends and using the architecture of their beautiful setting was a natural fit.

Congratulations, Erin & Bryan! Since we won, you win, too! A $25 gift card is yours for anything we offer that your heart desires.

With Joy,

ISPWP Contest Win for Anne!

Julie and Andrew’s wedding just keeps giving! We were able to capture so many incredible moments with the two of them. Bill recently received an award from the distinguished International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers for a moment during their ceremony, and Anne won today from the same organization for the couple’s celebration with this incredible sun set! We could not have asked for better light that day, especially after an afternoon spent pouring down rain, so it was especially sweet to see this. Congrats to Annie, and to Julie and Andrew, who win another $25 gift card for anything we offer that their heart desires.

ISPWP Quarterly Contest Results

We enjoy entering our clients’ images in contests whenever we get a chance. It’s always fun yet admittedly difficult to go back through photos from recent weddings and choose some of our favorites. One of our favorite contests is the International Society of Wedding Photographers, of which we are proud founding members. The quarterly awards go to some amazing photographers from around the world so competition is always stiff. (We were even lucky enough to be chosen Photographers of the Quarter last Spring!)

The Winter contest caught us just as we were wrapping up holiday orders and getting ready for our big trip to NZ so we only picked about 3 or 4 photos to enter. We’re thrilled to announce that two of our all-time faves were chosen! As before, clients whose images win here also win with us–a $25 gift card good for any product we offer. Congratulations, and check your email soon  you lucky peeps!

ISPWP Contest Results

We’re delighted to announce the results of the International Society of Wedding Photographers‘ latest contest! There was some truly incredible work submitted by photographers all around the world, and we’re happy to have several images from this year’s weddings place once again in the latest competition. As before, clients whose images win here also win–a $25 gift card good for any product we offer. Congratulations, and check your email soon!

Erin and Steve’s bridesmaid’s enjoy the beautiful afternoon light in this shot that Anne captured before their wedding.

We love Anne’s shot of Joy and Jerry greeting Joy’s parents just after their intimate wedding ceremony at Dahlgren Chapel, too!

Anne found this distinctive spot at Georgetown University for Joy and Jerry’s portrait and Bill’s shot won! Talk about teamwork! ;-D

Anne captured Spring’s gown, beautifully in the window with its reflection on a table at the Willard Hotel.

Thank you so much to our wonderful clients for helping us to create some beautiful details, compelling portraits and last, but certainly not least, many wonderful moments this year. We love our job and to be recognized by some of our colleagues for creating award winning images, well, you could say it’s the icing on the (cup)cake!

(The Other Editor’s Note: Alright, Annie, you may have won this round, but look out next quarter! Bwaaahaaahaaaa!)

Oh, well, then. By all means, let the trash talking begin (below)….

ISPWP Quarterly Contest Results

We enjoyed a few Spring weddings, as you’ve undoubtedly already seen on the blog, and came back with some wonderful images from our clients (thanks, y’all!). Most every quarter, we’ll select a few that really stand out and submit them for consideration in a professional photography organization we belong to, the ISPWP. The contest results were returned yesterday, and we’re pleased to announce that several of our images placed in the top ten, amid stiff competition from some talented shooters around the world. We hope you enjoy a redux of some of these moments captured from this past Spring:

Holland Photo Arts named ISPWP Photographer of the Quarter

We’re absolutely thrilled and humbled this morning to announce over the weekend we were named ISPWP’s Photographer of the Quarter, based on the most recent contest of photographers around the world. There was some amazing work by some very talented photographers, many of whom we’re happy to call our friends, so the placement of our images among this work really meant a lot. And a huge, huge thank you to our recent clients this past fall and winter whose weddings and incredible emotional moments served as the best possible subjects for us. It is you, our clients, that have offered up a piece of yourselves–that moment–to us to document for you. And for that we are eternally grateful. Oh, and if you’re a client and have one of your wedding’s images shown here–congrats–you’re the recipients of a $50 Holland Photo Arts gift card for each of your images that appear!

Additionally, if you post a comment with your favorite image here, both you and the couple highlighted have a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift certificate! We’ll choose a winner randomly on Monday, May 19, so be sure to leave your email address when you make your comment. Thanks!
