Speaking for The Art of Delight at Foundation Conference

Wedding photographers have a tendency to work in isolation when they’re not shooting. It’s just the nature of the job. So when we have a chance to gather, it so fills our hearts with joy it’s hard to keep it all in. Bill recently had the honor of speaking and serving as a photo contest judge at one of these recent get-togethers at the incredible Foundation Conference held at Hotel Valley Ho in Phoenix.

The talk’s topic was creating a consistently positive customer experience as part his The Art of Delight consultancy. Most artists, as you can imagine, go into business for themselves so they can be creatively free, not so they can be businesspeople. So a lot of thought is put into their art, and less into the business, which is as it should be because they’re focusing on their passion. But when in business, you can’t neglect one for the other and expect to put food on the table, let alone be creative.

His goal then was providing a basis for all our photographer peeps at the conference to enhance their empathy toward their clients’, consider their overall experience, how to deal with issues when they arise and how to prevent them in the first place, and thinking ahead and assisting a client with their needs before they even realize they needed help. It was an amazing and humbling experience and one he’ll not soon forget. Thank you to our dear photographer friends for their constant love and support.

While we were there, we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful light (we are photographers, after all) and the amazingly gorgeous Arizona sunsets as seen through our Instagram feed. The near constant temperature of 75 degrees was not too bad either. We’re already looking forward to next year!

This couldn’t have occurred to a nicer couple, and we’re absolutely thrilled to see their wedding there. Thanks to the entire team of professionals who helped create the environment for Liz and Paul, and of course to the couple for simply enjoying the day in the most natural way possible. Loved it!

Big congrats to Evan & Ashleigh, and to Emily & Scott! Both couples had moments captured at their weddings that were tops in our most recent International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers contest! We’re so grateful for the two of you for giving us the opportunity to document these small moments that mean so much to each of you.

Bill’s Faves of Anne’s From 2012

Bill’s Faves of Anne’s From 2012

Welcome back, everyone! We have a lot to share with you, but first we hope you had an incredible holiday season and festive beginning to the new year. We recently returned from a lovely, long and fun Christmas break where we got to spend some much needed time with family, as well as visit a few spots on the ever growing travel spot list. Thanks so much for your patience while we were gone! 2013 is shaping up to be one of much happiness, and we’re looking forward to sharing it all with you. But first, a few posts that look back. First up, our 2012 holiday card!

We had so much fun with is after we came up with the MADlib idea and knew that we wanted to make it an interactive one. After the card, you can see some of the outtake pics (thanks to the fabulous S&J over at Young House Love for that fun idea & be sure you check out their awesome card!) and then head over to our Tmblr site where you can see some of the returned cards we get. We had a great time reading/laughint through several of them that were waiting for us when we returned home! (And yes, diva that he is, Bill had a couple of costume changes. Hee, hee…love you honey!)

Spoiler alert – like S&J, we had to do some clever Photoshopping since we couldn’t keep Callie sitting on the table while we ran back & forth after setting the timer on the camera. (Hmmmm….maybe next year we can have someone else take our photo since we know a photographer or two in the area.) But, we trust you guys to keep our little secret. ;-D

Even with the anticipation of a new year, it’s always nice going back to revisit some of our favorite moments of 2012, including our favorite photos. Starting off is Bill’s favorites that Anne shot this past year. Enjoy!

Check back in later this week to see Anne’s favorites of Bill’s from 2012!

Lovin’ a little lovin’

Lovin’ a little lovin’

So yes! We’re a little excited (and perhaps a little tardy, but hey, who’s counting?) about two very recent developments. The highly regarded and wonderful resource Washingtonian Bride and Groom magazine recently hit the stands. Within it, we were delighted to find not only were we again selected as one of the very best wedding photographers in the Washington, DC area, we received more votes from area professionals and couples than any other photographer. Truly humbling and yes, it really did make our day.

Not long after, the editor of Virginia Living magazine called to let us know they selected us among Virginia’s very best wedding photographers in their most recent issue (seriously, pick up this magazine–every issue is stunningly beautiful).

Thank you to those who voted! We’re so grateful to live and work in a place that supports creativity and a strong sense of community.

ISPWP Win!

Congratulations to Aaron and Ashlee, for being the fun subjects (and recipients of a $25 gift card!) for this great shot by Anne, placing in the latest ISPWP contest. Seriously, you can feel the energy of these two through your computer screen!

What Junebug Loves: Phenomenal Photography with Challenging Lighting

We got the nicest surprise in our inbox when the friendly gals over at Junebug Weddings wrote to say they had hand-picked some of our images as wonderful examples of artful and creative shooting in challenging lighting environments. With weddings, of course, we can’t control either the weather or timing of a ceremony, so we work with what we’re given. Sometimes that light is soft, and sometimes is really dramatic as illustrated here. Be sure to check out more of their interesting and instructive blog entries–sure to educate and entertain those planning a wedding.

Sara & Matt’s Pippin Hill Wedding Featured on Style Me Pretty

Sara & Matt’s Pippin Hill Wedding Featured on Style Me Pretty

Happy Friday everybody! We always get such joy to see our clients’ weddings showcased, yet greater testament to the blood, sweat, and (hopefully few) tears that went into the thought and planning of their celebration. This week saw the feature of Sara and Matt’s wedding (part 2 here) on Style Me Pretty, with design and decor by the ever-talented Easton Events and Pat’s Floral Designs and held at Pippin Hill Farm. Lately we’ve taken to bringing out-of-town friends to the vineyard for its colorful and expansive views and of course, very tasty wine. Have a fab weekend, and we’ll chat next week.

Kimya & Brian’s Wedding Featured in Grace Ormonde Wedding Style

How sweet! Two of our couples from this past year have their weddings featured in Grace Ormonde within a week of each other! (Something in the water perhaps?) 😉 You already saw Stacy & Craig’s feature and now we’re thrilled to share Kimya & Brian’s, now on the Wedding Style blog. Jodi Moraru & her incredible team at Evoke did such an unbelievable job with the decor (seriously, don’t think Anne’s jaw had ever dropped that far when she walked into the ballroom that day) and making sure all the day’s events went off without a hitch. We’re so happy, too, that we could be a part of such an amazing and talented team. Congratulations, Kimya & Brian!

Have a fantastic weekend!

We’re happy today to share with you a feature for Stacy and Craig, whose wedding has just been featured in the venerable Grace Ormonde Wedding Style blog! They had a day filled with such rich tradition and New York-style, we were delighted to see it chosen by the magazine’s editors. The link includes a compelling back story to their relationship and wedding, and be sure to click on the photos tab to view some of the highlights in addition to the few we’ve selected below.

Congratulations, S&C! Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
