Friday’s FAB Finds {025}

We’re hard a work editing and tweaking several FAB weddings, but they aren’t ready to share quite yet, so how about a few FAB Finds instead? Happy Friday!!

Ideas We Love – Bringing the Indoors Out

I’ve been wanting to do a post on this idea for a while now, as I’ve been seeing more and more people embracing the concept. Instead of bringing the outdoors IN, let’s bring the indoors OUT!

One of our favorite wedding blogs, Snippet & Ink, recently featured a couple of weddings that took the indoors out theme to such beautiful, brave and unique levels, I just had to share them with you in case you missed them on Kathryn’s FAB blog.

Kate & Jesse brought out vintage rugs and pillows and surrounded them by lanterns on the grass for lounging during the reception and for viewing an old b/w movie they screened after dark! These are just a few of their and their wedding planner, Emily Kelly, FAB ideas – be sure to check out their sweet wedding story on Snippet & Ink.

They also had an Italian style family meal at long farm tables under the trees. Beautiful (and brave to go without a tent, but probably a little less brave in sunny CA. 😉

Courtesy Snippet & Ink, Photo by amy & stuart

I found Brooke and Steve’s gorgeous wedding on another of our fave wedding blogs, Southern Weddings. (One of our Blogs/Links We Love back on the 04 edition of FAB Finds!) Brooke and her Dad, made a “church” for their golf course wedding! Can you believe it?! Sooooo cool and absolutely gorgeous. I absolutely love that she and her Father created it together – so incredibly special.

Jessica Claire’s fabulous wedding last Fall was one of the first ones we saw to blur the lines between indoors and out. Very cool!

So what do you think? Are you a fan of the concept?

Hope you have a fantastic weekend – whether you’re indoors or outside! 🙂

Friday’s FAB Finds {024}

Happy Friday! Would you like a FAB Find or two to start off your weekend? Well, you’ve come to the right place then. You may remember Fridays FAB Finds {016} featured a beautiful, eco-friendly boutonniere and hair piece designed by an Etsy artist who specializes in vintage enamel beads…

This week we’ve taken that idea a step further and found some fabulous, incredibly unique, eco-chic bouquets for you!

Ideas We Love – Brooch  Bouquets

Okay, so how about this for your something old? I recently saw one these gorgeous bouquets featured on Daily Candy. The supremely talented Amanda Herr of Fantasy Floral Designs puts together these incredible vintage brooch bouquets for brides. Not only are they absolutely gorgeous, but how lovely that these little babies will never wilt. Each bouquet contains hand-picked baubles so no two are ever alike – what a beautiful memento from your I Do’s especially considering you can include your own family heirloom pieces in your bouquet.

Gorgeous! I don’t think I could pick a favorite as I love them all (see even more examples on Amanda’s website – watch out if you’re at work though, music immediately starts), but do you have a favorite??

Okay, so maybe this one is my favorite. Love the yellows!

Ideas We Love – Balsa Wood Bouquets

Are the brooch bouquets a little too much “bling” for you? Well, we’ve been hearing and seeing a lot of beautiful things that involve balsa wood lately. Would you ever think to make a wedding bouquet out of it? I wouldn’t, but I’m glad someone did! The Super talented Krislyn designed this wood and coral bouquet for a wedding that was featured last Fall on another one of our favorite wedding blogs 100 Layer Cake.

And JL Designs created this balsa wood and dusty miller bouquet for an eco -chic bridal shoot. Stunning!

So what do you think? Would you consider a jewelry or wood bridal bouquet when they can look this stunning?

Friday’s FAB Finds {023}

OMG! Is it Friday already?!? Well, Friday, you certainly snuck up on me this week. Lucky for you I found a few FAB Finds for you today!

Ideas We Love – Fun Conversation Starters

I found this adorable idea on my favorite go to wedding inspiration site – Martha Steward Weddings a while back and knew I wanted to share it with you.

I  Knew You When

“This bold time line serves as a three-dimensional reminder of when you first met your guests. Play it during cocktail hour guests and they will be sure to mingle.

Play It
During cocktail hour, each guest sticks a flag into the year she met either the bride or groom.

Make It
Save our clip art on a disk. Have it printed on oversize paper and mounted to foam board at a print shop. Cut flags from origami or scrapbooking paper; punch two holes and thread a corsage pin through. Stick into a fabric-wrapped foam board on a tray. Pins, by Lomey, from michaelsfloralsupply.com.”

Links We Love – ATrendy Wedding Blog

It’s no secret how much we adore Pam Barefoot of ATrendy Wedding. We not only get to work with her on some ah-mazing weddings together, we’re truly honored to call her and her wonderfully warm hubby Doug, dear friends. Truly two of the nicest people you could ever hope to know. Oh, and her two little girls are darn stinkin’ cute and sweet to boot! More on them in the future. 😉

Just one of the things we love about Pam, though is the utter passion she brings to her weddings, her couples, her friends, and well, the list could just go on and on. And now she is sharing that passion with the world – on her blog! Rivaling some of the best wedding blogs out there, Pam, aka The Blog-ette,  Pam pulls together some wonderful wedding finds and inspiration for brides on all budgets – whether your looking for rustic, vintage, modern, elegant, or shabby-chic–it’s all very personal. Even if you aren’t lucky enough to have your wedding expertly coordinated by her, I bet you’ll find at least a handful of gems on her frequently updated blog. Whether it’s one of her fabulous give-aways,  lovely inspiration boards she discovers, a post on thinking outside the box when it comes to table numbers or a simple single photo that can stop you in your tracks – it all exudes pure happiness and light. Head on over today and get your smile on!

Friday’s FAB Finds {022}

Thank Guinness it’s Friday, y’all!

Ideas We Love – Personalized Invitations

In another life, I would be a graphic designer. I absolutely love any and all paper goods. Who doesn’t love receiving a beautiful card, letter or invitation in the mail amongst all the ugly bills?

A great and fun way to inject you and your fiance’s personalities into your event is with the invitations. It’s often the first thing your guests will see and an invitation that speaks volumes about who you are, what you love, or even references the wedding site, for example, and gets them even more excited to join in your celebration. Whether you make them yourself or you have them custom designed for you, here’s a little inspiration to get you in the mood when thinking about your own invites.

The possibilities are endless with these adorable stamp sets from Yellow Owl Workshop. I can totally envision a backyard/garden party invite with just the tree and bike stamp.

On the other extreme is this gorgeous custom designed invitation set by Rifle Paper Company. Absolutely divine. (Click on the photos below to go to Anna’s blog post about Carrie and Adam’s design.)

And why not have a little fun with the process, too. I found these reply cards featured on Martha Stewart Weddings. LOVE the speech bubble – think of what crazy replies that would inspire and way more fun to keep for posterity.

‘Tis the season and lovely invitations are flowing into Holland Photo Arts HQ. Keep an eye on this space on future Fridays as we feature some of our FAB favorites. Happy Weekend!

Friday’s FAB Finds {021}

Here at FAB Finds Mid-Atlantic based HQ, we can’t tell you how delighted we are that Spring appears to finally be Springing!

Ideas We Love –Personalized Guest Book

We had seen this really unique thumb print guest book awhile back on one of our favorite West Coast based wedding blogs, Green Wedding Shoes and think it’s a perfect Spring FAB Find, although it could certainly be used for affairs at anytime of the year.

The bride’s brother designed their wedding tree and each of their guests was asked to “leaf” their thumb print on the branches and write their name on their “leaf”. How adorable and how fun! You can see more of this couples unique wedding day on the full blog post. (Brides, be sure to check out the Bride’s gorgeous Melissa Sweet Reverie Collection dress and the MOH’s tiered ruffle dress from Anthropologie, too! FWIW – If you’re looking to have your wedding published in print or online, we’ve noticed that editors love to see unique wedding gowns, such as shorter ones.)

Happy, happy Spring and we hope you have a fabulous weekend!!

Friday’s FAB Finds {020}

Welcome back! Just a quick and fun FAB Find for you today.

Ideas We Love – Beautiful Umbrellas

So the rain today got me looking for some beautiful umbrella options,  just in case Mother Nature decides that she is going to shower you with good luck (wink, wink) and rain on your wedding day (double wink, wink). The internet to the rescue! I absolutely love the gorgeous form of these pagoda umbrellas from Bella Umbrella, not to mention the fun colors.

This bold stripe would look fantastic with a brightly colored bridesmaid dress.

And the best part about them is you can reuse them long after your wedding to brighten up any rainy day that happens to come your way. 🙂

Have a great weekend!!

Friday’s FAB Finds {019}

It’s that time again – time for Friday’s FAB Finds!!

Ideas We Love – Fun Stuff for Kids

Having kids at your wedding celebration is a personal decision, but if you’re having the type of affair that allows them, we love unique ideas of keeping them entertained. We’ve seen specific tables set up just for the kids at the reception, complete with coloring books, glow necklaces and other fun little things to keep them busy, at least until the music starts that is! I saw this idea on Martha Stewart Weddings recently and loved it!

Courtesy Martha Stewart Weddings

Keep your littlest guests occupied with this photographic scavenger hunt. Who knows? One of them might even snap your favorite shot of the night.

Place a card, a disposable camera, and a pencil at each child’s setting, and see which kid can photograph all the items on the list first. You won’t need an incentive to get the kids playing, but a small prize for the winner is a good idea.

Download the PDF and print onto card stock. With a paper trimmer or a craft knife and metal straightedge, cut the paper in half to make two cards. Use a rounded corner punch to trim the corners of each card.

Places We Love – Clifton Inn

Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to be a part of several wedding celebrations at the gorgeous Clifton Inn in Charlottesville. It’s not only one of our absolute favorite wedding venues, but it also happens to be our favorite special occasion place in town. We’ve celebrated many wonderful birthdays and anniversaries at the inn and have never once been disappointed. In fact, our first visit was way back in 1999 for Valentine’s Day! Chef Dean and his wife and pastry chef, Erin always knock it out of the park and we’ve been known to have to loosen a belt loop or two after a meal there! Be sure to contact Crystal or Brigitte if you’re planning a wedding and are looking for the perfect Charlottesville experience for you and your guests. Or if just need a romantic getaway from wedding planning! Here’s a few of our favorites from just a few of the weddings we’ve photographed at Clifton.

Yea for Fridays!!

Ideas We Love – Cupcake Wrappers

Anybody who knows us knows we LOVE us some cupcakes! Honestly, I certainly haven’t paid much attention to the paper surrounding the fluffy concoctions, but that would most definitely change if that creamy, sweet goodness was wrapped in such fun and festive wrappers as these. Lots of companies have jumped on the cupcake trend and now offer decorative wrappers, but these from Bella Cupcake Couture are some of the most elegant and sophisticated ones we’ve found. They’re available in so many colors and fun designs, you’re certain to find some that compliment your color scheme and/or wedding theme.  Some may say the cupcake trend has reached its peak, but we’re still seeing them at weddings and we certainly don’t mind a bit. (Mouse over the photos for the name of the design and click the photo for a direct link to that wrapper.)

People We Love – Pineapple Productions

We’ve had the enormous pleasure of working with Alison Jackson and Elizabeth Duncan at Pineapple Productions over the years. Whenever we’re involved with one of their events, we know it’s going to be nothing less than stunning. They’re masters at creating stress-free, personalized weddings for their lucky couples. They primarily work out of their DC-based office, but have traveled throughout the country, coordinating fabulous events from Cape Cod to California.

Friday’s FAB Finds {016}

Happy Friday! This week we’ve got a few more “green” FAB Finds for you. If you’re incorporating eco-friendly touches into your wedding celebration, feel free to share your ideas in the comments. We’d love to hear them!

Idea’s We Love – Fabric Wraps

Christmas may be over, but 2010 will likely bring a few occasions in which you need to wrap up something special for a loved one. Why not make the wrapping as thoughtful as the gift? We love these fabric wraps from Chewing the Cud. You may remember we featured their adorable Save the Date tea towels in an earlier green edition of FAB Finds. We’re big fans of Viola’s work and you can find even more lovely things in her Etsy shop.

The wraps are hand-printed on organic fabric using soy based inks.

Not only does your recipient receive a great gift, they can reuse the beautiful wrapping, too!

Ideas We Love – Vintage Jewelry

Score another one for Etsy. This bride’s wedding was featured on Martha Stewart Weddings a while back and I adored her creativity when it came to her groom’s boutonniere and her hair piece. She found Etsy Artist Sleeping Dog Studio, who specializes in vintage enamel beads and jewelry and custom fashioned two fun and funky keepsakes. They’re both retro and modern at the same time! After the wedding, I can totally see these dressing up a little cardigan.

Ideas We Love – Plantable Favors

If you want to give a favor to your guests, but don’t want something that will sit in a drawer never to be seen again, or even worse, end up in a landfill, consider an eco-friendly favor that will adorn their home and benefit the environment. I found these plantable favors in a recent The Knot issue and they perfectly fit the bill.

Friday’s FAB Finds {015}

Whoo-hoo! Thanks to a wonderfully busy and fun Fall wedding season, Friday’s FAB Finds has finally returned in the new year and thousands’ cheered! Ok, maybe five cheered, but they cheered really loud. ;-D If you’d like to see past installments, just click on the Friday’s FAB Finds category to the right.

Invitations We Love – Miranda & Eric

You may remember Miranda & Eric’s fabulous wedding this past September (see Part 1 and Part 2 on the blog) in DC and several people asked about their gorgeous invites, so we wanted to share a few more photos of them. Mindy and her fantastic event planner, Jamie Sears of Simply Chic Events, custom designed the invites and all the paper products through Haute Papier in Georgetown and they turned out beautifully. They really captured the mood and feeling of Mindy and Eric’s wedding celebration, as well as their personalities.

They further personalized the invitation box with photo stamps featuring DC landmarks. Such a nice, little touch with big impact.

Who wouldn’t LOVE to get this in the mail?!

Yummy letterpress on thick paper. Love it!

Stuff We Love – Custom Made Stamps

We’ve blogged about Etsy before, it’s simply one of the best sites on the ‘net, especially for those planning a wedding. Instead of handwriting and having printed labels on your invites, how about having a custom made return address stamp? Or DIY your invites and paper goods with a stamp depicting your wedding theme. If you’re having a summer wedding, for example, you can have a stamp made of a ferris wheel. You could also do your wedding monogram or “logo”. The possibilities are endless!

In that vein, we were thrilled to find foryoo, a custom designed stamp shop on Etsy. We had a couple of custom stamps made as well as a return address one. Hey, anything that can make paying bills a bit easier is totally worth it! Sandy is truly an artist and is dedicated to providing quality products to happy clients. She primarily makes address stamps, but if you can dream it, I bet she can make it. I just need to figure out what else I can stamp so I can order more!

Friday’s Fab Finds on Summer Break

Good morning everyone! You’ve probably been out of town quite a bit anyway and are now starting to catch up again on your blogs, etc. We’ve maintained Friday’s Fab Finds through the most weeks this summer but are taking a brief break with the column until Fall. We hope you enjoy some of the other blog posts that are coming your way here in the meantime. Thanks, and we’ll be back soon!

Friday’s FAB Finds {014}

Yea for Fridays!! 🙂

Idea’s We Love – Fragrant Mists

Summer weddings can be beautiful affairs, but they often come with warm weather, which can also come with some uninvited guests of the flying variety. We thought these homemade, all-natural mists we found in latest issue of Martha Stewart Living were a lovely alternative to offering conventional bug spray and are super pretty to boot. I’m  going to make some of these for our next big cookout. These are not only easy, but such a thoughtful idea for your guests. Definitely a “good thing”, indeed!

Courtesy Martha Stewart Living

Courtesy Martha Stewart Living

“A refreshing spritz of fragrant water is a great way to keep cool in summer. To create sprays, simply fill mist bottles with water and a few strips of julienned cucumber or sprigs of lavender and mint. Label bottles (labels from chroniclebooks.com), and set them on a tray at your next backyard barbecue. Bonus: Cucumber is known for its hydrating properties, and lavender and mint are reputed insect repellents.”

People We Love – Erin McDermott Jewelry

Full disclaimer – Erin, of Erin McDermott Jewelry, is a wonderful friend of ours and we’re incredibly excited to be shooting her Spring wedding next year, but we think you’re going to love her, too! She is an amazing jewelry designer and has been creating beautiful, unique pieces for years. (I can attest to that as I have several pieces myself – I especially love her turquoise work.) Erin loves designing bridal jewelry for brides, their bridesmaids and their Mothers. One of her specialties is working with each individual client and learning more about them as individuals, their own personal style, their likes and dislikes and what mood they’re looking for, as well as designing pieces that will compliment their dresses and flowers.

Be sure to check out her website and she’s adding new designs all the time. I love the fun names she gives her pieces, too like Drive in Movie drop earrings, Rhythmic Rock Candy Charm bracelet and Cream Custard & Cloud Countryside necklace. Also, if you’re local to Charlottesville or find yourself in our lovely town on a Saturday morning, be sure to visit Erin’s booth (staffed by her warm and friendly assistant, Patty) at the Charlottesville Farmers Market, April-October. Come early though as it only runs from 7am-Noon (otherwise known as the time Anne gets up on a non-wedding Saturday!).

Here are just a few of my new favorites.

Erin is also having a special promotion right now. If you refer a bride to have her bridesmaid’s jewelry designed by Erin McDermott, she’ll send you a free pair of earrings…your choice. How cool is that!? You’ll also want to visit her inspirational blog – don’t miss the adorable pics of her little Sukie, as well as her latest jewelry designs.

Idea’s We Love – Silhouette Escort Cards

So I found this fun idea after I had already featured some fun and different silhouette ideas in last week’s installment of FAB Finds, but I just had to share it with you anyway. It’s that good. 😉

Courtesy TheKnot.com

Courtesy TheKnot.com

“Silhouettes help guests find their seats in style. Put your profile on your family’s escort cards and your fiance’s on his family’s. Even for a small wedding it’s a good idea to pick guests’ seats instead of letting them choose their own. Otherwise, your grandparents can get stuck in the back while your fiance’s coworkers score prime spots.”

“Wedding” Movies We Love – Rachel Getting Married

Yup, you read that right. Bill and I recently watched it and amid the intense family drama infusing this movie, there’s an actual wedding that is one of the coolest and most unique we’ve ever seen. Who cares if it was only a movie wedding. It’s really cool to see the different cultural aspects that make this wedding about not only the couple, but their family and friends who all play important parts in the wedding (and rehearsal dinner), as well.

The movie, smartly directed by Johnathan Demme, is about as un-Hollywood of a movie you can get and that’s also part of why we loved it. And even with all the heavy drama, the joy and levity of the wedding festivities helps keep the film balanced. (Compared to Revolutionary Road, which we also saw recently (thanks Netflix!) and while the movie was very well done, was quite the downer.) The music and appearances by Robyn Hitchcock and Sister Carol East (she was also in Demme’s Married to the Mob as the Hello Gorgeous salon owner, another fave “wedding” movie!), as well as the groom, who is played by the lead singer of TV on the Radio, just to name a few, may be enough on their own to draw you in. But look deeper. All of the family relationships in this drama ring strikingly honest and real and while it certainly has it’s heavy moments, the film is by no means depressing. Shot largely on hand held cameras, the documentary feel to the film makes you feel like you were there. You can watch a trailer here.

Fridays FAB Finds are all about showing you unique ideas and ways to make your wedding your own – not your parents’, nor your best friend’s. If you see the movie for no other reason, check it out to see how the couple infused their personalities and style into their laid back, backyard affair. You can find inspiration everywhere you look…even in the movies!

Have a great weekend and if you have a few moments to contribute, we’d love to hear what is currently inspiring you!

Friday’s FAB Finds {013}

Welcome back and happy Friday! We’ve found a few more fabulous finds for you this week. Enjoy!

Ideas We Love – Buttons

Cute as a button is right! (Sorry – we couldn’t resist!) I was poking around one of my favorite wedding blogs, junebug Weddings, a while back and somehow ended up finding Christy’s inspired button wedding theme. I loved the ideas she pulled together, but even if you don’t want to do an entire button theme, pick a few of your favorite button ideas below or create your own. We can’t think of anything more simple, but delicately beautiful, than buttons.

From Martha Stewart Wedings: Basic Covered Buttons – Button kits, found at sewing stores, let you make shank buttons; you supply only the fabric. Simply cut fabric circles to size and snap pieces together. (Spray-painting the shells white before you wrap them ensures that no metal glare shows through the fabric’s weave.) Lightweight cotton or linen works with any size; use a larger button for heavier fabrics such as tweed.

Places We Love – Meridian House

We’ve been lucky enough to shoot a couple of absolutely lovely weddings at the incomparable Meridian House in DC and we’re already looking forward to being back there for Emily & Jonathan’s wedding next May! They’re one of our fellow colleagues on Washingtonian Bride & Groom’s “best of” list. Meridian is one of those hidden jewels in the city. The mansion is gorgeous, complete with a grand double staircase in the front, high, ornately detailed ceilings, and historic wall tapestries and original  statues throughout the house and gardens. The garden is the perfect spot for an outside ceremony and their sweet pebbled courtyard has the most incredible grove of linden trees that were imported from Europe when the house was built in the early 20th century. We’ve heard people say the linden trees alone were why they fell in love with it and we can see why. It’s truly not to be missed. If you’re looking for an amazing DC venue for your event, we can’t recommend April and her professional team highly enough.

Ideas We Love – Silhouettes

So you may remember seeing the silhouette monogram design in the last installment of FAB Finds, in reference to unique color schemes.

chair-initials

Love it! So I was especially excited to learn you could hire a silhouette artist, like the incredibly talented Karl Johnson, for your wedding thanks to fave planner, Pam Barefoot’s ATrendy Wedding blog. How fun!

From Pam: “I love the idea of having a silhouette artist at a wedding. I recently touched base with Karl Johnson a master silhouette artist based in California and I’m excited to soon do a unique wedding with him. This is a very classy and personal touch at a wedding and I think that guests will have a great time getting their individual silhouette done. Each silhouette is hand cut and completely custom. Who doesn’t love this idea ….it’s so creative.”

We totally agree. They can be totally vintage or totally modern. The possibilities are endless!

We just love the many, many ideas out there for personlizing your wedding day for your family and friends. Hope you found a little inspiration of your own this Friday. Thanks so much for joining us and enjoy a fabulous weekend!

Friday’s FAB Finds {012}

Welcome back, everyone! We found a few free moments this week, in between some incredible weddings, to find some fabulous finds for you. Hope you enjoy!

Invitations We Love – Joy & Jerry

You’ll recognize Joy and Jerry from their recently blogged beautiful wedding. You can see all three(!) posts from their fabulous day – Part 1, Part 2, which shows many of their wonderful details and Part 3! Their entire day, as well as their incredible details, were all top notch and thoroughly thought out.

When Joy first showed us their invitation packet over lunch, I think I actually let out an audible gasp! The envelope was soooo thick with lovely calligraphy so I knew we were in for a special treat when we opened it. The  envelope itself is lined with a rich, chocolate brown moire silk and the invitation is a modern, letter pressed design on the thickest cream card stock we’ve ever seen—even thicker than our business cards and those could prop up wobbly furniture, although we don’t recommend them for that particular use. 😉

Joy carried the design through to the menu cards, table numbers, chocolate brown cocktail napkins and even the wedding certificate that all the guests signed. The design, calligraphy, focus on one rich color and the contemporary invitation wording completely fit the event and the couple.  Such gorgeous and thoughtful attention to detail definitely lets your guests know they are in for an amazing day and evening (extending through the next morning in their case!).

While we photographed the invitation at the wedding, I wanted to include the entire gorgeous suite in a few photos. When thinking about what background to use, I immediately thought of my maternal grandmother’s wedding dress! It’s been in storage and hidden away for many years, but was recently uncovered during a too-short spurt of basement organization. I decided the elegance of the invitation and the dress were the perfect match. My grandmother Rose would have absolutely adored these.

Ideas We Love – Innovative Color Combination’s

Many of you may remember Joy and Ben’s (whose wedding was featured in the latest Washingtonian Bride and Groom) sleek, bright and fun orange and sky blue color scheme. Their colors were perfect for a summer wedding. Flipping through a recent copy of The Knot magazine, I found another color scheme that I wouldn’t have thought of, but totally love—lemon yellow and aqua! Be sure to check out their great color-combo advice!

These cute cupcake flags could easily be an Idea We Love, too!

Ideas We Love – Inspiration Boards

As you can see in the color boards above, Inspiration Boards can really bring your wedding theme/style together cohesively. We’ve been lucky enough to have several of our images featured in the many style boards that can now be found on various wedding themed blogs, but Abby at Style Me Pretty was one of the first to start doing them and we’ve been fans ever since. (And proud Little Black Book members!)  Fittingly, she now invites her many readers to submit Inspiration Boards for periodical contests with fame and prizes to be awarded. She’s currently running a contest to create a board based on one the gorgeous dress styles found in their new SMP Look Book and the current winner will receive a $250 gift card to Crate and Barrel! Check out the details, but hurry – boards must be submitted by next Friday, July 31st!

People We Love – Kim G – BeautyMark

Sometimes you can just tell when certain people were born to do what they do. Kim Giammaria is one of those people. We’ve had the pleasure of working with Kim on several weddings throughout the years and we always get super excited to see her again. Not only is she incredibly talented, she’s one of the most warm, kind-hearted, and genuine people we know. She always makes our brides, along with their family and friends, look absolutely radiant on their wedding day, but totally natural at the same time. We have a sneaking suspicion that she connects with just about everyone she meets.

We honestly can’t recommend Kim highly enough. Even if you’re not getting married, but are perhaps going to a special event, you’ll definitely want to “connect” with Kim! Here are just a few shots of her working and the lovely results!

Friday’s FAB Finds {011}

Happy Friday! Well, guess what? We’ve found some great, um, I mean fabulous finds for you this week! Who’d a thunk it?!?

Ideas We Love – Pajama Parties

Okay, I know this one might sound a little weird at first, but stick with me here. A recent tweet from one of our photographer friends mentioned that she was attending her client’s post-rehearsal dinner pajama party and how much she was diggin’ it. It reminded me of Gary & Jeanne’s fun and beautiful Hope and Glory (one of the places we love) wedding a few short years ago and that their awesome idea should be shared.

Since Irvington, Virginia is very small and all their guests were staying at the Inn or very close by, they decided to have a BBQ dinner on H&G’s back patio for all their guests, followed a short time later by a pajama party complete with milk and cookies! In fact, a huge farmhouse table FULL of sweet treats lovingly made by family members and brought to the Inn for the special occasion. Needless to say, a great time was had by all and yes, of course, we *had* to fit in, so we wore our best PJ’s, too! ;-D Although as you’ll see, a few people didn’t comply with “the rules”, but we’re pretty sure those who did had way more fun and way more “room” for all those treats!

Ideas We Love – Charity donation favors

We love fun and fab favors just as much as the next gal, but there is definitely something to be said for having your favor be a donation in your guest’s names’ to one of your favorite charities. Not only are they pretty “green”, as in environmentally friendly (yup, snuck another one in on ya!) but it’s such a personal and meaningful gift. What better way to let your loved ones know what causes are near and dear to your hearts? Plus, if you still want to give something tangible, you can make it a small one and attach a cute card letting people know about the donation. I thought these were some great ways to do just that! (Not that a personalized yo-yo is a small favor!)

Because they met in Iowa, Ivette and Tom gave their guests corn-shaped, white chocolate candies with hazelnut centers. The sweets were tucked into small boxes filled with raffia and tagged with a thank-you and a note explaining that a donation had been made to the Humane Society on behalf of their guests.

Janelle and Jim gave out yellow Live Strong bracelets with a card that read, “In lieu of favors the couple is donating money to the Lymphoma Society. Please wear this band in honor of Janelle’s battle with cancer.”

As a parting gift, Lindsay and Ty gave their guests a piece of lucky bamboo, which they found at their place setting along with some pink hypericum berries. The favors were decorated with a handmade tag that thanked the guests and indicated that a donation to the Lake Champlain Restoration Association had been made in their honor.

When Bill and I got married, we were lucky enough to have a friend who knew a metalworker that made custom medallions, mostly for the military. We designed a silver one that included our names, wedding date, location and our wedding logo (a butterfly signifying me and sunflower representing Bill) on one side. The other side had one of our favorite quotes by Mahatma Gandhi – “Where there is love there is life” – along with words of our own – ” So that others may know such love, a donation has been made on your behalf to fight women’s cancers. Thank you for sharing in our love today.” The donation was in honor of my Mom whom we had recently lost to cancer.

In hindsight we’d have made the medallions a bit bigger as our message ending up being pretty small, but overall, we loved them. It was something our loved ones could take with them as a reminder of how much it meant to us to have them there sharing our wedding day with us. To this day, I keep one of them in my bedside table as a meaningful reminder to me just how lucky I am to share my life and my love, everyday with Bill. Okay, enough mushy stuff, here are a few shots of our medallions.

Erin & Steve (more on them to come, but you can check out their lovely sneak peek in the meantime) had donations made at their recent wedding and we love how they let their guests know. Their escort cards were designed like library book check-out cards.  The cards listed the attendee’s names and their table number on one side and a sticker on the back said, “In lieu of favors, Erin and Steve have chosen to donated to Reading is Fundamental.” Love the tie in!

They continued the book theme with their menu cards which listed each meal course as a “Chapter”.

We’re sure lots of other clients have done similar things, as well, but since they are often wrapped in scrolls or put in boxes along with perhaps a little treat, we oftentimes don’t get to see them. Be sure to keep a favor or two aside for your photographers if you’d like photos of your donation gift announcement.

Thanks everyone! We hope you have a fun, safe and sparkly Fourth of July!!
