Cattleya & Chris’s Wedding at Virginia’s Rust Manor House

Cattleya & Chris’s Wedding at Virginia’s Rust Manor House

Even though Cattleya & Chris’s wedding was held on the July 4 holiday, no extra fireworks were needed for this fun-loving, sweet and motorcycle-riding couple. Theirs was a very family-centric, intimate event and they even had a close friend serve as officiant. While there was a little rain earlier in the day, it merely sprinkled a bit during their first look, and after just a few clouds during the ceremony, the sun made a glorious appearance in the misty haze just in time for some beautiful portraits around the historic manor’s grounds. Lather that evening, it was fun hanging out with all the kids (and kid-thinking adults) getting their fill on some late night Summer s’mores. Yum! All in all, we can’t think of a more perfect way to celebrate the Fourth.

Check out a few of our favorite moments and details below, then check out their full gallery. The password is Cattleya’s maiden name and is case-sensitive. Bonus points for correct spelling.

Wedding cake with Pinky & the Brain

Dear c&c,

Some of the moments we truly loved during your wedding include: How calm you both were while it was raining during your getting ready, as if there was nary a care in the world (there really wasn’t). Your cake toppers representing your nicknames for each other. (Although we can’t remember who was Pinky and who was the Brain.) Cat, when you finished getting dressed, that look of utter love your mom had on her face. Your “rain? what rain?” feeling you had during your first look. Including your grandma in the ceremony via FaceTime (we think she had a pretty good view)! Chris, your wedding ring designed to look like motorcycle tread. The huge smiles of, “We did it!” right after you kissed as your guests applauded. Pinky reaching in vain for the Brain, as it tumbled over the side of the cake after your cake cutting. And not technically a moment, but man, choosing between all those amazing homemade cakes, pies and S’mores was really, really hard. (Had to go for the S’mores in case you were wondering. Wouldn’t be the Fourth of July without them!)

Congratulations, you two and we wish you many, many fun loving Fourths in the future!

xoxo,

Dear m&s,

Some of our favorite moments from your wedding day include:
Your first sight, and Marc’s look on his face and his excited smile when he saw you for the first time, Sara. When that scavenger hunt team descended on you and your wedding party in Lafayette Park, delighted to have found a bride to propose to. The oh-look-at-that expressions on the faces of your bridal party seeing your wedding band join your engagement ring just after your ceremony. Your dad’s touching toast, prompting a few tears. Marc’s insistence of that tiny little piece of wedding cake fed to him be followed by a self-served, nearly airborne, gigantic piece. Air guitar. And lots of it.

Congratulations, you two!

Lindsey & Rob’s Mountain Wedding at Steamboat Springs, Colorado

Lindsey & Rob’s Mountain Wedding at Steamboat Springs, Colorado

The air at 9000 feet is always pretty crisp, and it wasn’t any different for Lindsey & Rob’s sunny Colorado wedding up at Steamboat Springs this fall. Their guests arrived at the mountain ceremony site via gondola and were treated to breathtaking views while the couple said their vows to one another. Not that anyone was looking at anything other than the happy couple, of course ;-). Talk about a breath of fresh air.

Our wish for every couple is that they have a wedding that feels like them where their friends and family can’t imagine them marrying any other way. Steamboat fit them to a tee, reflective of their adventures together (she hikes 14’ers in a day for fun, and their travels have taken them from Australia to Dubai. You might remember them from their relaxed Boulder County Fair and CU engagement session this Summer–we all had such a blast (plus some cotton candy). Check out a few of our favorite moments and images from their wedding, and of course their complete gallery. The password is Lindsey’s maiden name and is case-sensitive. Enjoy!

Dear l&r,

Some of our favorite moments from your wedding day are:
Your uncle’s quiet moments, Lindsey, stolen away from arriving guests as he prepared to officiate your ceremony. Lindsey, your dad’s emotions as he spoke during your ceremony, and the comfort your mom offered as he returned to his seat to witness the rest. In an only-in-Colorado-moment, a ready-made welcome committee of ultra-marathon race fans cheering you as you walked from the gondola to the start of your reception. Eschewing a more traditional (and some might say boring!) way to feed each other your first piece of cake, you instead tossed the pieces up in the air and each caught them in your mouths. Impressive! The peacefulness you had around your first dance. It was as if you were just lost in each other. Not sure what game it was, but the intensity with which your college friends kept their fingers intently on that beer was fun to watch.

Congratulations, you two and we look forward to sharing a beer sometime soon!

Dear j&r,

Some of our favorite moments from your wedding include:

The huge range of emotions on your faces and loving glances to one another as you waited (patiently?) to walk down the aisle together to marry each other. The story told about your first Christmas together with the rings you gave each other 16 years ago and how they felt perfect as your wedding rings today. The surprise garter (nice touch with the teeth!) and bouquet toss, a huge hit among your guests and especially those who caught them. When getting ready, the casual attentiveness you had toward the other, tying ties and making sure the other looked just right. The cheers of congratulations among your loved ones as they watched you turn around at the altar with beaming smiles on your faces. Even the rain later that evening couldn’t dampen anyones spirits.

We love you guys and were so happy to have been a part of your wedding!

Dear Lauren & Chas,

Some of our favorite moments from your wedding day include:

Your kind words about us and our marriage being an inspiration for all couples on their wedding day. Lauren, your easy laugh and how your radiant smile could brighten a cloudy day. Your stolen kisses. How overcome with emotion you both became during your personal vows. Chas, the overwhelming look of pride on your dad’s face as he hugged you after your ceremony. Lauren, the broad smile on your dad’s face…all night long. Your delicious pies! Not really a moment there, but having a bite definitely was. All the boot kickin’ on the dance floor. That hug when you first saw each other that day; it was as if you’d never separate. Awesome.

Congratulations, you two!

Dear e&r,

Some of our favorite moments from your wedding day include:

That look of utter bliss on your face, Zibby, as you held hands and read the letter from Ryan just before your ceremony. The look of pride on your mom’s face, Ryan, as she helped put your cufflinks on and watching your dad assist with your tie to get just the right knot. The moment you shared with your sister, Zibby, just before joining your parents to walk down the aisle. It reflected years of tight sisterhood and untold stories. Your three flower girls! It seemed like every time we turned around one or more of them were exuding extreme cuteness. Those tight hugs you got from your grandparents right after the ceremony. The smiles on their faces went on for miles. Your tenderness, except for that bout of playfulness during your cake cutting. The video slideshow of the two of you growing up as you danced with your respective parents.

Congratulations, you two!

Some of our favorite moments from your wedding include…

The easy-going, nothing’s-going-to-bother-us attitude throughout the day. Your stylist’s t-shirt (and your grandma, too, natch)! When your ring-bearer approached one of your guests during the processional and presented her with the ring pillow, instead. The childhood excitement on the faces of your friends as they all watched the fireworks display. All the love-inspired signs placed throughout the tent, serving as thoughtful reminders for your friends’ own relationships. And finally, your guests really showing the playground spirit of sharing with that bottle of Maker’s.

Congratulations, you two!

Here are a few of our favorite moments from your wedding:

The look your niece gave you as she watched you put on your tie, Mike. How Coty “presented” your shoes to you for donning, Jenn. The way, when you first saw each other, you each held your arms out identically for the other. Watching each of your moms laugh together outside the chapel just prior to your ceremony. How your dad, Mike, watched with tears in his eyes as you met your bride at the altar. Your grins! How the late afternoon light fell on and around you as you walked to your cottage for the first time as husband and wife. The unending smile on your dad’s face, Jenn, as he watched your husband toast you. The sheer and touching determination your dad showed during his toast, Mike. The way you held Mike’s face in your hands while dancing later that night, Jenn, as if to wordlessly say, “We did it!”

Indeed you did. And we were sooooo happy to have been a part of it all. Thank you and congratulations, you two!

Liz & Scott’s Wedding at Charlottesville’s Clifton Inn, Part 2

If you haven’t already, please check out the first half of the day for Liz & Scott, then get ready to par-tay! (Yup, been a long week.) ;-D

The Fab Team:

Venue: Holy Comforter Church and Clifton Inn
Catering & Cake Artist: Clifton Inn
Planner: Easton Events
Floral design: Jack Lucky Floral Design
Band: Gentlemen and their Lady
Make-up: Lora Elaine Kelley
Hair Stylist: Lucas with Bella Hair Studio
Videography: Ian’s Creations
Gown: Oscar de la Renta
Bride’s Shoes: Valentino Couture
Stationary: Epitome Papers
Calligraphy: Crystal Kluge

Another idea we just love and so did their guests – little Liz & Scott facts where hidden under the menu cards on each table. We saw lots of people laughing and sharing theirs with their table and others!

Each champagne glass for the toasts had a hibiscus flower in it. Freaky cool!

Scott’s mom reacts to his toast.

Liz’s parents during Scott’s toast.

Scott’s family watchs his dance with his Mom.

Party time!

Poor guy’s shoe flew off with such force we don’t know if he ever found it. Great catch, Annie!

Some of the best advice we’ve ever heard given to a couple is to quietly go off, take a moment to step back and take it all in. We were thrilled to be able to capture that moment when Liz & Scott did just that.

Haha, check this out, then look at Scott’s reaction in the frame below.

Late night…

G’night!

Congratulations again, Liz & Scott and thank you for inviting us in to share your day with you!

Liz & Scott’s Wedding at Charlottesville’s Clifton Inn, Part 1

Happy Friday, everyone! Ok, so Friday’s may just be known around here as “real wedding day” in season, but we’re sure we’ll find some time to come up for air and will have some fun FAB Finds for you soon. In the meantime, you don’t mind seeing some gorgeous recent weddings, do you? Nah, didn’t think so. 🙂

First, though – OMG, is it hot enough around here for you? Well, we hope you’re either somewhere with abundant air conditioning or preferably, sipping a chilled adult beverage poolside somewhere. Reading this of course then, on your favorite tablet or laptop. Regardless, we’re so thrilled today to share with you Liz and Scott’s touching wedding celebration out at the elegantly casual Clifton Inn. (You didn’t miss their super sneak peek of some of favorite details from the day, did you?) Enjoy some of our favorites from the first part of the day, and tune in later this afternoon for part 2 – the celebration to end all celebrations!

Seriously. I die. (Yes, this is, Anne, but I think Bill kinda liked it, too. 😉 ) Love, love, love Liz’s dress and even more seeing it on her! Wow!

Yes, please.

Scott and his family react as they listen to a song his dad composed just before his passing. It was never recorded until just recently when done as a surprise for Scott on his wedding day. Learning the story brought tears to our eyes, too.

Where’s Scott? Hee, hee…such a cool shot, Bill!

This is the best in helpful groomsmen. Actually holding a beer to your mouth so you keep your hands free to waive no mas!

The Route 11 potato chips were very popular with the guys! Eat Local. 🙂

Stunning…that word is not even adequate to describe how radiant Liz looked.

Beautiful vintage white Packard to take Liz and her parents to the church.

One of Bill’s favorite shots of Anne’s…

And one of Anne’s favorites of Bill’s from the day.

We love Dads and bouquets, what can we say.

Liz’s equally gorgeous sister. Yup, it clearly runs in the family, but it actually extended to her entire bridal party and “ladies in waiting”.

Love the pop of green against their black dresses.

And LOVE this idea – Liz had her Mom and Scott’s carry miniature replicas of their wedding bouquets! How sweet is that?!

LOVE this look Liz is giving Scott at the start of the ceremony.

A well documented kiss….

And exit! Two-fisting the camera action. That’s one talented guest.

Just Married!

Of course, it started pouring down rain just before Liz & Scott arrived back at Clifton in a sleek, silver Jaguar, but their incredible staff had her covered.

Yummy letter press invitations from Epitome Papers. Yes, we said yummy. Don’t judge. It’s been a long week. 😉

The ladies had monogrammed vases for their bouquets at the reception.

Finally, a break in the rain…and just in the nick of time for their walk down to the tent!

Yes, Scott just did that. Seriously! So sweet. 🙂

Dear l&s,

Weddings are, by definition, emotional events our couples and their families. And it’s those displays of emotion that really drive us, that nourish us, that give us the primary reason to do what it is we do–capture them in all their intimate beauty. Some weddings just shake us up inside, and we well up with gratitude for the ability to document it all, preserving the fleeting moments for generations to come. Yours was the epitome of all this, starting with that look of excitement from your friends and family, Liz, looking in on you while getting your make-up done, to Scott–listening for the first time to that song that your father composed just before he passed. Combined with your toasts that evening and your families’ reactions? Well, being there to witness that is a precious thing indeed. We got a just a sneak peek at what was to be when we did you engagement portrait session, and loved it all.

But, of course a very cloudy day seemed to have a sky that just broke open with a huge downpour just as we were returning to Clifton Inn from the church, delaying things in the gardens for your portraits, but no worries. You took it all in with grace and happily gave us time to create some sweet portraits for you both in Clifton’s lush gardens. We didn’t think it could get any better, but then we got to see your tent. Wow. You and Augusta created a space of such warmth, joy and excitement for the evening to come. Those lanterns! Oh. My. Gosh. So beautiful and unique – we’re pretty certain once everyone arrived, they completely forgot about the rain. We know we did. And, little did we know, just how much your guests would not let a little clouds and rain get them down, because they got down on the dance floor that night. Whoo. Did they get down! And we’ll be honest – we might have feared for our feet at just a few times (darn those Death Heels), but it was so totally worth it.

Watching you quietly head outside the tent later that evening to sit back and watch as your family and friends celebrate was for us a “Yes!” moment. It was so nice capturing that unscripted, completely real moment for you and we just love that you stopped to take it all in. Thanks so much for providing such beautiful, poignant, emotional moments throughout the day–thank you for simply being you. For your trust, and your friendship. Congratulations to you both!!

xoxo…

First sight!

How cute are they? Seriously.

Such a sweet couple…

Time for the family-only ceremony at the church Annette’s grandmother was married in!

We loved this moment of Annette peeking through the church door’s windows to see Binh, awaiting her processional.

Hehehee…

Back to beautiful Woodlawn!

Nothing says “sit back and relax” like a pair of flip flops. Or does it say “kick off those heels and get your groove on”?? Either way, it’s a wonderfully sweet touch.

Binh’s son had an easy and infectious laugh.

A little DJ in the making…

They also celebrated Annette’s grandmother’s birthday!

Dear a&b,

In our line of work, as you know, we get to see lots of beautiful couples come together and commit themselves to each other. Sometimes those celebrations involve a huge party for just about everyone (and their parents) know. Sometimes it’s just the couple alone saying their I Do’s and celebrating with a quiet dinner afterward. And then there’s your wedding. It was perfect. Perfect size. Perfect location. Perfect for the two of you.

We were so touched by your desire to get married in the same church your Grandmother did in St. Mary’s and we loved that you shared your wedding day with her and celebrated her upcoming birthday (complete with a cake!); that all the kids present spent the evening running around and playing ball, catch, you-name-it in the light of a guest’s car’s headlamps after the sun went down; that you started out your first dance in a traditional manor only to erupt half-way through into an energetic hip-hop dance;  and that more than anything else, you were just simply the two of you, being yourselves.

You included lots of thoughtful details (flip flops AND pashmina’s!) for your guests and it was clear that everyone had a wonderful time that evening. They actually got to talk to you for more than 10 minutes! And dance with you. Dancing into the night while enjoying lots of sweet treats – cake AND dessert bar! Annette, your Dad might have even gotten Anne out on the dance floor for a few minutes. She will neither confirm, nor deny. 😉 We, like your guests, were sorry when the evening came to an end.

Your wedding celebration was the perfect reflection of you both – fun & festive, intimate & sweet, casual & elegant, touching & joyous. It’s all we, as documentarians, could ask for. And we loved every minute. Thank you so much for having us out to celebrate with you and your family. Congratulations!!

xoxo,
