Studio Updates

Road Trippin’ (June ’26)

Hello and welcome back to our monthly newsletter, where you’ll get all the latest a&b and studio news that’s fit to print: Where we’ve been and are heading, what we’re shooting and studio updates, along with some of our favorite things & people. Know someone who might like to receive this in their inbox on First Fridays as well, please forward this free post to them and THANK YOU!

First off, we’d like to apologize for our May and June newsletters not going out on their respective First Fridays and we thank you for your patience and understanding. More about why below.

current location📍

As we mentioned last month, we’re back “home” in Colorado! And, we can finally reveal where we’ll be staying for the entire Summer—Woodland Park, a small town about a half hour outside of Colorado Springs. At an elevation of 8500’, Anne especially is very excited that the average Summer temp is in the 70’s!

Staying in one spot for three months is entirely unheard of for us, but we decided to stay stationary for a while for many reasons; the primary one being to be closer to family and friends for a while. While we’ve been lucky enough to head back to Colorado twice a year since we got on the road full-time in 2024, it’s always a marathon sprint of a visit combined with all the doctor, vet, and housekeeping items that have to be taken care of, as well.

We cannot tell you how thrilled we are to have found such a choice longer-term spot at an affordable price. As you can imagine, in-season rates are higher. But week- and especially month-long stays are more economical than daily rates. Still, destination popularity makes a difference! For example, we considered Bend, Oregon for the Summer, but besides not being close to family, the monthly rate at our desired spot was more than our old mortgage!

not on the map 😢

Right about the first of May we found ourselves unexpectedly returning to Pasadena, California to help Bill’s dear cousin Elizabeth—”E” to everyone who knew her—as she passed away. Three days prior she suffered a serious fall, despite her walker, and broke key vertebrae in her neck. Born with moderate Down syndrome and cerebral palsy, most people with those conditions don’t live terribly long lives. Yet E, at 59 and born a year before Bill, was the exception to the rule in more ways than one.

She was always up for a party, no matter the reason, and was quick with a grin and to always, always offer to sample the strawberry cheesecake first to make doubly sure it was up to snuff for everyone else. Thanksgiving and New Year’s with the Rose Bowl Parade were her favorite holidays, her favorite excursions were to Disneyland and she lit up every room she entered. You had to learn “E speak” and once you did, you found she was a terrible flirt! On our visit last year, pointed to a male actor on People magazine and then pointed to herself to say “mine”.

Top right, Elizabeth & Bill waaaay back in the day. Bottom right, the day Annie met Bill’s LA-based family for the first time. It didn’t take long for Elizabeth to look at us, lock her fingers together, and say, “Married?” I guess she knew something we didn’t just yet.

Sweet E, we miss you so. Rest in peace, dear one. 💛

Sadly, as we mentioned above, May didn’t start out that great and as such, Anne didn’t much feel like celebrating her Cinco de Mayo birthday. As we were welcomed by family and friends later in the month, though, we greatly enjoyed getting to do so with so many loved ones, both in Denver and Salt Lake. Y’all sure know how to make a gal feel loved. 💗

Top left, getting our tiki on with A’s May b-day twin L, and E 💗 We missed you, R&S! Bottom left, getting to celebrate with A, D & S who made a delicious dinner for us all ❤️

PS-obv I LOVE my southwestern scarf—a former b-day gift! Thanks A&J!

travel journal 📔

Mid-month saw us at the Airstreamer’s Maintenance Rally in Larkspur where we learned a lot about, well, maintenance! In addition to being able to get some minor repairs done by the experts, we got our dump tanks professionally cleaned, discovered some great hacks from other Airstreamers and learned we have the beginnings of front end separation!! If that sounds bad, well it ain’t great, Bob!

(Sidebar: front end separation occurs mostly on longer rigs when its shell separates vertically from the frame due to joint fatigue failure, often caused due to repeated road stresses (dips, bumps, and potholes) shaking a weighted rig. Weight distribution hitches might also be a contributing factor. Suffice to say, we have to get it fixed. Another reason it will be good to be stationary for a while. Sigh.)

We also met awesome people (seriously, Airstreamers are the coolest & friendliest around), enjoyed getting to see inside some other Airstreams during the Open House tours and the unique thrill that is getting to see a bunch of Airstreams parked together and lit up in all their shiny, sparkly glory. Don’t think it will ever get old.

Ellie getting her glow on

Lastly, we spent the Memorial Day holiday (thank you, Bill, as always for your service 🇺🇸) with Anne’s family learning how Ritual Chocolate makes their dark chocolate, watching a minor league baseball game (SLC won!), visiting a dream nights art installation and since we subscribe to the birthday month club, celebrated Anne’s birthday with a yummy cake and ice cream.

Ritual’s sipping chocolate was truly decadent, but all of us felt their S’mores bar wasn’t very S’mores’y
The rain went away and we won! Go Bees!

The visit to the SLC Dreamscapes is kind of like a locally-produced mini Meow Wolf.

Anne also got one of the coolest gifts, a new 2025 Airstream popcorn bucket from AMC that they created for the Accountant 2 movie. (Recommend if you haven’t seen it, although there’s definitely not enough Airstream in it!) Needless to say, Airstreamers see it for the awesome collectible it is. (We actually saw two on display in two different Open House Airstreams at the rally!) The attention to detail and build quality is quite cool, too.

Will Anne “sully” it with actual popcorn? If you have to ask, you don’t know her very well.*

Also, if you find yourselves in Weber Canyon (outside Park City) in Utah, be sure you stop by this adorable little pop-up art gallery trailer. Featuring work from Utah makers, the shop is built on the honor system. We picked up a colorful UT sticker for our sticker door collection!

field notes 🗒️

We’re so excited to announce that the Love Notes Postcard Project is almost here and is the gift that keeps on giving. First when you open your package and then again when your recipients receives their postcards. And those you keep to display will continue to make you smile.

Through the Love Notes Postcard Project, you’ll be part of a bigger plan…to sign off for a few…put out tangible beauty in the world…and to take a brief respite to let your loved one know you were thinking about them. Each edition is thoughtfully designed to spur connection and bring a little tangible magic to your hands.

Your first quarter will start with delivery in mid-July and the theme, inspired by all things classic Summer beach trip, is Sand & Surf. Your gift this quarter is an eye-catching custom designed, two-sided luggage tag professionally printed on thick plastic for durability. One side features the dreamy Pacific Ocean during magic hour from Oahu, Hawaii. On the other, one of our favorite Summer quotes from one of Anne’s favorite poets. Perfect for wherever your travels take you; this Summer and beyond.

Project members will receive each quarter:

  • Five 5×7 fine art postcard prints with First Class stamps in a different curated theme, printed on thick 130# matte paper stock
  • Personal letter from a&b discussing the inspiration behind that quarter’s theme as well as the individual postcard prints, think Behind the Print & Tranquil Tuesdays
  • A thoughtful gift that fits that quarter’s theme

And, of course, each shipment is wrapped and packaged beautifully (our clients already know the love and care we put into each and every package).

Here’s a sneak peek of what you’ll receive in July. (We’re not giving away quite everything so you’ll be surprised and delighted when you open your package!)

Should we have extra postcard sets, we’ll make them available for purchase, without the gift or letter. And once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Friends, let’s send more love out into the world. You don’t need to write a long letter to let someone know you’re thinking of them. You can’t, anyway…it’s a postcard!

And let’s be honest. While a postcard is physically a small thing, it’s a real thing. It is not a text message on a digital screen. It is something you can hold in your hand. It has emotional weight. It’s evidence you are cared for when you receive one. That someone took time out of their busy day to let you know that they’re thinking of you.

Thoughtfully curated and beautifully presented art that is worth keeping, and gifting of course…delivered to your actual mailbox each quarter for $44 a quarter, (free shipping!). And since we want to spread even more love around, each quarter, $1 from each subscription will go to a different non-profit. For July’s drop we’ll be contributing to the Ocean Conservancy.

Pre-orders will be accepted through the end of June and your package will be mailed out around the 15th of July. And of course you can cancel anytime you need to ahead of the next quarter’s drop.

Look out for the sign up email coming soon, but in the meantime, hit reply and tell us who’s going to get your first Love Note. We’d love to hear and we promise we won’t tell! 💝

artist spotlight 🔦

Pretty sure Anne found New Mexico ceramic artist Christine Tenenholtz on Instagram and her stunning, colorful work immediately stopped her scroll! (Sometimes Insta gets it right. Sometimes.)

We just adore those bright, sunny gold touches that is her signature. 💛 Anyone who has dabbled in ceramics knows just how hard these colors and textures are to get. From the wheel to the glazing to the kiln, so much can go wrong. It’s truly a labor of love and Christine is at the top of her game in our opinion.

I mean how stunning is this vase below? We love the muted 70’s speckled look combined with her bright rainbows & colorful prismatics.

You will want to get on her email list so you’re notified the day before her latest release goes live. Her incredible pieces sell out QUICK! So quick (like five minutes quick!), we haven’t yet been lucky enough to collect any of her pieces yet, but having beautiful breakable pottery in the Airstream is inadvisable anyway. Hopefully someday soon. You’ll have to let us know if you end up getting lucky!

H/T to Christine!
