Studio Updates

Road Trippin’ (Mar ’26)

Hello and welcome back to our monthly newsletter, where you’ll get all the latest a&b and studio news that’s fit to print: Where we’ve been and are heading, what we’re shooting and studio updates, along with some of our favorite things & people.

current location📍

Can you guess?

Yup, we’re back in Austin for the month and excited to be stationary for a while!

At the Empire of Chip & Jo in Waco…

In the Big Chair in Waco at Magnolia RV (no affiliation with “the Magnolia empire” crazily).

Streamin’ on the Strand

When we learned that there was an Airstream Rally down in Galveston Island where forty Airstreams line up along the Mardi Gras parade route, we had to get another punch in our official Airstreamers card! Our last was Camp Yellowstone last June and well, this was quite different. This time, Ellie got a Mardi Gras glow up at Streamin’ on the Strand.

Early spring will find us back in one of our favorite haunts, Santa Fe. We’ve shot a bit around and even put together a brief city travel guide with some of our favorite restaurants, coffee shops, tea houses, best happy hours, hot springs and quirky attractions we’ve enjoyed. We find its vibrant and friendly artists’ community and low-humidity weather drawing us back often.

field notes 🗒️

For the second year in a row we got to celebrate b’s February b-day in Austin. Plus, Anne was finally able to bake a birthday cake in our took-a-while-to-get-fixed oven! 🙌

wish you were here 👋🏻

They say a picture is worth a thousand words…

Introducing our latest gallery, “ten thousand words” where we share photo essays of ten frames each (get it?) that have moved us in some way.

First up, Vegas…which we hadn’t visited in well over 15 years. Things have changed. And many things haven’t. It was wild seeing the difference.

At the neon boneyard in Vegas at sunset

Prior to Vegas, we passed through Idaho and visited the Old State Penitentiary. We were not prepared for this place, even with a guided tour.

While we visited during the daytime, Anne still got the creeps in certain areas. We knew going into it this might not be easy to photograph. But it’s difficult to convey the heaviness we felt here. Maybe the photographs do?

Last up in the new gallery (for now), a little lighter fare: the neon lights are shining bright deep in the heart of Austin, one of our favorite towns.

In most cases, these are editorial and not for sale. Tell us what you think…what’s your reaction to these visual essays?

P.S. icymi last month, we featured our gallery of a’s & b’s favorites. If you were previously overwhelmed with the possibilities, this is a good place to start.

This month we’re featuring trained environmental scientist turned painter, Noelle Phares.

We’ve been lucky enough to meet, as well as collect some of Denver based Noelle’s beautiful and unique fine art prints. Someday we hope to invest of one of her stunning originals. (The piece above left is one my absolute favorites of hers-a.)

Noelle, in her own words:

“People often remark at the seemingly unique marriage of abstract structure and landscape in my work. But in reality, that is what the world looks like these days: the stark break of a distant mountain view by the foreground shapes of the built environments we live in. I choose to paint places that have been altered, for better or for worse, either directly or indirectly by human development. I hope to both raise awareness of the fragile beauty of these places while also highlighting how beautiful and functional manmade design + nature can be if done with symbiosis, instead of nemesis, in mind.”

Our purchased works:

I gifted to Bill the lower-right print last year for his birthday, entitled with the lyric “sing me something for the dark” by our fave musician, Gregory Alan Isakov.

Other faves:

We also love her desk calendar (2026 is sold out) and, once the month is done you can tear off the bottom and use the image as a postcard or keep it and frame it. (Or set it on an easel as it’s own art piece as we did below!)

Follow Noelle on Insta at @noellephares, and Colorado peeps, you can visit her studio in Lakewood neighborhood, in Denver by appointment. Locals can purchase her prints framed for pick up. For others she has an excellent and comprehensive Framing Guide available in her Etsy shop.

H/T to Noelle!

Please note all images of the artist and her work are copyrighted by Noelle Phares and may not be used w/o permission. Yes, we received it. 🙂 #shopsmall

As you know, we’re not alone on this journey of ours, thankfully. Our dear kitties, Frankie and Willow are with us providing much needed cuddles and lots of laughs, always.

Airstreamer’s and Airdreamer’s alike will love these lightweight coasters. Designed by us and printed in the USA, you’ll be the envy of your friends at the campsite or your own backyard! Available in both B&W and tan/forest green “Eddie Bauer”-style (we can swap out “elements” as desired too).

Tis the season to start planning those summer vacays and you know you and your family need your own personalized luggage tags right?

Check out some of our faves in our gift shop! And please share if there’s something you’d like to see us offering.

Enjoy your weekend!
