Wildflower fans are already taken with the magnificent bloom underway in Death Valley. Later in summertime in Colorado’s Crested Butte, flowers bloom with mad colors, smothering the surrounding hills with vibrant blooms. They’re so widespread the town created an annual festival to celebrate their arrival, as if Crested Butte needed yet another excuse for people to visit.
We were so taken by this field of Mardi Gras colors we simply captured the scene, forgetting to investigate exactly which species we were seeing, hence the title of this piece. And frankly, so late in the afternoon we were already thinking of pizza later at the incomparable Secret Stash downtown. So hopefully we’re forgiven this omission.
Just goes to show how mere exposure to something can generate appreciation. And yet, granting deeper attention much more richly develops our sense of awe. Who couldn’t use just a little more awe in their life?
