We were hiking one afternoon through Oregon’s coastal woods in Shore Acres State Park and happened upon the most lush, moss-draped scene we could have imagined. The late-afternoon sun, dappled through tree leaves, momentarily highlighted parts of the magical green carpet and guiding our eyes across its elements.
Looking at this scene reminds me to appreciate how everything in our universe supports all that sustains us and allows our thriving. One little fallen twig may seem inconsequential at first blush, but to the insects enjoying its shelter and nourishment, it’s a big deal. And the birds who eat the insects? Also pretty significant. You can see where this is going…
Looking at it differently, I suppose it’s also true at our human level. What’s vitally important to some may not even be on others’ radar. And yet, it all comes together to enrich the depth and breadth of everything around us. Worth appreciating, regardless of our own perceived importance of something. Turns out we have but the tiniest window into life’s richness.
