We were heading home from Breckenridge yesterday, driving in a short line of cars past Quandary Peak and over Hoosier Pass. As is always the case with a two-lane road, there was a car going a little slower, so everyone else got to pile in behind.
It’s pretty easy to get annoyed at the front-most driver for driving more slowly than we’d prefer.
It’s equally easy, however, to distract ourselves from the “traffic,” focusing our attention on what’s beautiful around us. I mean, we were in the middle of the gorgeous Rocky Mountains, the sun was out, and we’d just seen a majestic fox cross the road! How could we not look at what we found more pleasing?
That’s the thing, isn’t it? We don’t always have control over what other people are doing or how it affects us. But we definitely have control over how we react to it. It’s a second-by-second choice, all ours to make if we do so deliberately.
What deliberate choices will you make today?
